Search Jquery-Bonsai checkbox tree using a search field?

I'm developing a site that uses jquery-bonsai to pull JSON data in order to build a nested checkbox tree. I need to add a search functionality to this auto-generated tree and I'm not sure what to do. I've tried several search plugins but none work with the checkboxes and I'm at a loss. Has anyone tried to do this before?
