Qt checkbox controls which images are shown

My project is a thumbnail viewer with images of 5 different categories, I used QListWidget as the container. Then I added one checkbox for each category. I want to show the images of a category only if the checkbox is checked. There are any method that I can use to control the icons that are shown in the mainwindow?
