Auto select checkbox in realtime when textfield is used

Apologies if this question is too simple. The only problem is that I never expected to ask this question. Is it possible for a checkbox to auto select if a certain textfield is populated? The idea is that the query that is submitted cannot work if Textfield A is not empty and Checkbox A is not checked. This is mainly for ease of use so that I do not have to remember to select the checkbox when using the textfield. Using jquery 1.12.4 is this possible?
