How to make checkboxes related to the selected check box get selected automatically using java script

I am working on a task, where the web page will display a number of company names and each company name will have a checkbox adjacent to it. When I click on a checkbox adjacent to a company say ABC , how do I make other checkboxes related to the same company (for example: companies like ABC Inc.,ABC ltd etxc) also get checked automatically using javascript so that I can perform operations on the selected companies. I am using html/java script.
