MS Word template :: a different way for a check box

I was tasked to create a word template which contains a predefined list (image icon and text). These icon/text are in a default color (say Grey for example as in screenshot a; also might resemble inactivity).

The desired result is: When the user clicks an icon/test item, the color should change to a different one (something I'd be able to define, like blue for example as in screenshot b).

Is this possible? I know I can put radio buttons/check boxes. But the request is to make it as explained above.
