Styling checkbox to have transparent background

Is it possible for the checkbox to have a transparent background? I have an image in the background and the checkbox on top of it, what i want is to style the checkbox in such a way that i can see the image behind it. If you can provide me a solution to the button would be a plus, but the priority is the checkbox right now.
