Unable to Get Checkbox Status in MailMerge Field

I would like to tick a checkbox if checkbox1 is checked, but the result is always unchecked.

Below is my MailMerge field settings:

if"<<checkbox1>>\* Upper"= "TRUE" "☒""☐"

I have also tried ="Checked", and ="1", and ="Yes", but they did not work.
