Using spacebar to check a checkbox and toggle to the next checkbox

I am using checkbox in a gridview and because it has quite a lot of rows, plus it is also a requirement to check all the checkboxes before the user can click submit. So it really becomes a hassle to keep clicking the checkboxes using a mouse. Then, I was told that spacebar could also do the same job of checking/unchecking the checkboxes, just that it only could do that 1 at a time and you would need to press the tab key to change to the next checkbox. So I was thinking if there is any way to be able to check/uncheck and focus onto the next checkbox with just spacebar alone?
