Kendo Grid Filter Using Old Values

I am very new to Kendo and feel like I've been searching for an answer to this for hours.

I need to update some checkboxes within a Kendo grid. The checkboxes are in a column which is filterable.

After I've updated a checkbox by clicking it, if I apply a filter on the same column, the checkbox's value is reset to its original value by the filter.

Do you know how I can force the filter to respect the new value of the checkbox?
